The Carl Herz Foundation
Created in 1997 in memory of Carl Herz, one of the founders
of the Institut des sciences mathématiques, the Foundation is a non-profit
organization mandated to fund ISM activities. All donations to
the Foundation are tax-deductible. Since the Foundation is managed
by the ISM, there are no administrative costs: all donations are used
exclusively to fund the programs described below.
Priorities:
- Support the mathematics magazine Accromath
- Award the Carl Herz Prize
- Create new scholarships
Accromath
Accromath is a mathematics magazine distributed free-of-charge
to high schools and cegeps in Quebec. Its primary aim is to
attract more young people to the mathematical sciences by giving
them lively, relevant, topical material. A donation to the magazine will
help ensure its future, and allow us to increase the number of copies
printed so that we can respond to the increasing demand.
Carl Herz Prize
The Carl Herz Prize recognizes a research contribution to
mathematics or statistics made by a doctoral student registered at
one of the ISM member universities. Highlighting the achievements
of our best students by offering them a prize early in their career is
beneficial to the whole community.
Scholarships
In the long term, we would like to create new scholarships
that could be entirely funded without spending the Foundation’s
capital. If you would like more information, please
